"What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!" Romans 7:24,25
"I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out." Romans 7:18. Many of us may have the desire to be a good person, to do good things, but without Jesus living in us, we are unable to. We may do outwardly good things, donate to the poor, be nice to people.. but inwardly we may still hate, covet, and be an awful person. And God sees the inside. And it's usually the inside that tears people up. For example, depression can become a problem, when people try to do good, but keep feeling awful on the inside. On the outside they may look like everything is fine, but on the inside they have a huge hole where God should be. And it can only be filled with God.
But the good news, is even with how wretched of a person we may be, God can and WILL deliver us through Jesus Christ!! He gives us an out to that awful way to live.
Lord, thank You that You can fill that void in my life, that through You I can no longer just desire to do good, but can LIVE through You.
